Meet Mrs. Long
BA English, 2nd grade teacher, pottery teacher
Hello All! My name is Anna Long and I am proud to be Mount Saint Mary's 2nd grade teacher. I have a BA in English and try to incorporate as much creative writing as possible, and making it fun! I recently moved back to my hometown of Manchester 10 months ago from the big Island of Hawaii and I am so happy to be back home and to also have my 4 children here as students at Mount Saint Mary. We love hiking, adventuring, and spending our Summers on Lake Sunapee.
We love writing prompts! Students will often choose a writing prompt which gets them exploring and expressing creatively. We use Evan Moor textbooks which offer a wide variety of specific subjects- grammar and punctuation, phonics, daily language review, reading comprehension, 6-trait writing, reading comprehension, and handwriting practice.
We use Science Fusion textbooks, currently on Unit 6 Earth and Its Resources with a focus on what changes earth, what are natural resources, and how can we classify plant products? We use the interactive online platform which has videos and clips.
We are studying the regions of the United States! Every week with a focus on a different region. We have been making mini-books, using maps, with added curriculum from Evan-Moor. For our Fair Share in April, students will choose a state of their choice to do a project and research on.
For religion we incorporate the textbook Sadlier We Believe: Jesus Shares God's Life while reading Bible stories from a book called Jesus Calling: Bible Storybook. I also find it so important during this time to pray, reflect, and be reminded of our virtues.
